The property is 30 acres (120,000 m2) and is home to 10 buildings. The first owners, the Hardings, acquired the property in 1807. The Harding family built the Belle Meade mansion in 1853. This plantation was used as a thoroughbred breeding ground for three generations. Eventually, the Harding family sold the property in 1906 because of the weak economy.
